WELCOME TO MY WORLD!
My name is Barbara Copperthwaite. I’m a cake-obsessed, nature-crazy, international best-selling author, and USA Today bestselling author, of psychological crime thrillers. I am represented by Jane Gregory, of Gregory & Company, and published by Bookouture, an imprint of Hachette.
I’m so very pleased to announce that my fourth novel, HER LAST SECRET, will be published on Friday 13th October – lucky for you, unlucky for the Thomas family… The Thomases appear to have it all, until one day Benjamin Thomas’s mistress confronts his wife. As Christmas approaches spiralling secrets and festering vulnerabilities are revealed, and the family unit unravels to an explosive showdown. You can pre-order Her Last Secret now
It is the second of my books to be published by Bookouture. The first was THE DARKEST LIES. When a teenage girl is found beaten unconscious on remote marshes, her distraught mother, Melanie, finds herself pitted against friends and family members. While she unravels emotionally, the close knit community of her small village closes ranks. Just what is the truth behind the darkest lies?
So far it has been a bestseller in the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada (hitting No 1 in Psychological & Suspense). It has also become a USA Today bestseller.

My debut novel, INVISIBLE, was self-published; it went on sale in 2014, and has been an Amazon bestseller in the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia. It’s about a woman trapped in a controlling marriage, who suddenly becomes an unseen victim of crime – and the most hated woman in Britain. Bella magazine said of it: “Totally gripping and scarily believable characters. One of the most assured debuts of the year.”
My second self-published novel, FLOWERS FOR THE DEAD, has been equally successful at home and abroad.
The terrifyingly realistic tale of a serial killer stalking his victims and killing them in the name of love has gained an army of fans and critical acclaim. “A chillingly drawn serial killer. Will have you looking over your shoulder and under your bed… Original, gripping, with a deep psychological impact,” declared The Sunday Mirror.
I believe my success is thanks to my experience as a national newspaper and magazine journalist. I’m inspired by the incredible true stories I’ve heard – for example the campaign I ran to highlight domestic violence, One Strike and You’re Out, was award-winning.
I’ve spent over twenty years as a journalist, interviewing real people who have been victims of crime, either directly or through the loss of loved ones. As a result of people bravely and generously sharing their experiences with me, I know the emotional impact of violence and wrongdoing.
That’s why my novels are realistic and accurate. They aren’t simply about the criminal act, but the repercussions they have. People like me and you are always at the heart of my thrillers.
HOBBIES & INTERESTS
In my spare time, I can be found hiding behind a camera, taking photographs of wildlife. I love losing myself behind the lens as it is such a different form of creativity to the written word. Nature and the environment are passions of mine.
